The Friends’ 4th Annual Afternoon Tea
Colin Peasley, Councillor Tanya Barrington and Adrian Burnett
On Sunday 2 August, 120 guests gathered to be entertained with anecdotes about the life of Sir Robert Helpmann from the Guest Speaker Colin Peasley at the 4th Annual Friends’ Afternoon Tea. Colin, a talented former dancer and the Director of Education at The Australian Ballet, is well known as an entertaining speaker with passion for the world of ballet. He provided an insight into Helpmann’s life, which enthralled and delighted all in attendance.
In the beautiful surroundings of The Women’s Club, and in the presence of a number of former dancers, including Vicki Attard, Jayne Beddoe, Bryan Lawrence, Adrian Burnett, Elizabeth McMahon, Kathleen Geldard, Kathleen Sams, Paul Hamilton and David McAllister AM, guests enjoyed the company of fellow ballet lovers.
Each of the dancers were introduced with a reading of their biography, which is a wonderful and unique opportunity for members to be reminded, or discover anew, the achievements of our wildly talented dancers.
The presentation of $50,000 from the Friends of the Australian Ballet to the Australian Ballet brought gasps of pride from the guests. The afternoon raised a further $3,000 from Auctions, which will be donated directly to The Australian Ballet.
This affordable and entertaining annual event has become so popular with The Friends that we will be booking a larger venue next year!
